La Monte, Missouri

This past weekend we headed back out to the Midwest to La Monte, Missouri. It was a long 16 hours just for one race, but the track was sure worth it. Upon arriving on Friday we got to watch their local car racing series take place with the hobby, modified, sprints, and street stock cars racing.  This was fun because not often do I get to see cars race on the same track that we are going to race on the next day. Saturday came and I was ready; the track looked a little dry, but the La Monte raceway crew worked hard to get it up to par by race time. In practice on both the Harley 750 and the Suzuki 450 I felt good. I made a minor gear change to both bikes and that was it, all day. In the scratch heat on the 750 I got off the line in second behind Carver and I made a pass coming off of four to take the 4 lap scratch heat win.  The scratch heat of the 450 I got off the line in 4th and followed Carver up to third. I finished the scratch in 3rd behind Michael Toon and Jeffrey Carver.   In the heat on the Harley I got off the line in third and stayed there the whole race with Corby Sherb taking the win and Jeffrey getting second.  The 450 heat was the exact same riders lined up again from the scratch heats, so it was going to be another dog fight with Carver, Toon, and myself.  I got off the line in third or so and made a pass on Carver for second.  I was trying my hardest to catch Toon, but he was killing me on horsepower on the straightway, so I had nothing for him in the end.  Finally the mains were up and I felt ready to go.  In the main event for the Harley I got off the line in fourth behind Sherb, Carver, and Mike Bickerton.  I made a pass around Bickerton on the second or third lap to start making my charge after Carver. We both were kind of a little leery of a hole in two that we both were catching all day. I finally got the confidence on the last lap to make a low line pass over the hole to take second place from Carver for the overall finish.  In the 450 main I got a horrible start, but worked my way up to third before getting passed by Corby. Once getting passed I decided to work with Corby to try and push us both up to the front. We both got by Carver and were running wheel to wheel with each other. It was a lot of fun until we closed the straightway lead that Toon had on us. We got up to Toon in turn two, but Toon hit the hole in two, which caused him to bobble and make Corby checkup. Well when Corby checked up we were all so close that I hit his back wheel and high sided off of it. I landed on my head and arm, which hurt, but I was determined to get up and getting going again upon the restart.  I had eight laps to go and the whole field to pass again. I got up to six before another red flag came up,  but they revert back a lap so I went back to 9th again with 6 laps to go. I put my head down and picked my way all the way up the fourth to finish behind Carver right at the line.  Although after AMA review I came to find out that Carver left air out of his tire on a red flag and with the new DMG rules we are not allowed to work on our bikes under red flag. That was tough break for him as they DQ’ed him and gave me third. I was happy though for my sake because that gave me the points lead still by two points in the series.  Leaving La Monte I am still in first on the 450 and now second on the 750.  My next hot shoe is this weekend in Peoria, Illinois with my next Grand National being next weekend in Bulls Gap, Tennessee.  Thanks to all of my family, friends, sponsors, and most importantly my fans for all of their support over the season!
