Well itʼs been a while since I have last updated with trying to get school done for the summer and with trying to keep up with my racing program. Since the last time I have updated you I have raced in three different states in three different weekends. I first started off on the road again headed to Vernon, NY to take part in Buddy Ford's race. I was real excited to see how my Suzuki would hold up against some of the fast competitors from the nationals and to ride a mile again. The first practice didn't go as planned as I destroyed a motor half way through the round. I lined up for the second practice and everything went smoothly without a complaint. On the start of the heat race I got off the line in 2nd behind Shawn Ford. After following him for about two laps I made my move around him coming out of turn two which set me with a second place overall time for the pro sport heats. Finally after some rain had went through over above we were ready for the start of the mains. I got a pretty good start as I came off the line in about 3rd behind James Rispoli and Shawn Ford. I worked my way past Shawn Ford right off the bat and put my head down to try and close 8th bike lengths that James had over me. I noticed all day that he was struggling in the turns and figured out early that he was doing the same in the main. I also learned early on in the second round of practice that I could ride the whole track without ever allowing my steal shoe to touch the dirt. With the combination of these two I was able to real James down in about 3 laps into the race and follow him nose to tail the following laps to come. I started to think of a strategy as the laps narrowed down and decided I was going to hold off trying and attempting a move on him until the last lap coming off of turn four. Coming down the back straightaway I noticed James got really high up towards the fence. I thought to myself that he was never going to regain himself after that big of a mistake so I took the chance and went on by him. I came across the line in first and I was super excited because I knew that James always had excelled on miles and cushion tracks. The following weekend we raced local at Path Valley Speedway. In the first main event I was following my brother up through the pack until the last lap we both dove it into turn four under Mike Poe. Cory cleared Mike, but with the big banking that the speedway has me and Mike got tangled together once we got evened out again on equal surface. He ended up keeping both of our bikes and himself up on two wheels which was good, but unfortunately I got drug from one end of the track to almost the other until we got stopped. The next main event I once again followed Cory up through to finish a solid fourth, which was one of the best finishes I have had at this track in a while. The next day was Piston Poppers TT. The first main event I had a little bit of a slow start as I couldnʼt see the light because of riders on the front row. I ended up finishing I believe 12th. The next main event I got off the line in about 7th and ended up finishing the day in 9th. I wasnʼt happy with my results but I feel I have learned a little bit more about my bikes on tt's then I had the last time I visited this track. This past weekend we headed out to Dayton Ohio for my next round of the hotshoe series. Practice went real well and I think we made no changes to the bike all day, but for switching a tire around here and there. I won the scratch heat and I had the fast time for the pole of my heat race. I went on the win the heat race over a great battle with Bobby Descena. I also had the fast time overall for the heat races for pro sport so I sat on the pole for the main. Off the start of the main I got a little wobbly shifting gears going into one so I lost the holeshot to Jeffrey Carver. I then tried to make a move under him, but with the rough track conditions he to got out of line and I ran into the back of his rear tire. I almost high sided but saved it by turning right. Unfortunately Shawn Ford and Bobby Descena got under me when I was struggling with regaining myself coming out of turn two. The track was pretty difficult to pass on and the four of us were all running about equal pace around there so it led for a good main. I ended up finishing a solid fourth. I was glad with my finish because I didnʼt really know coming into the track how my finish would end up because I knew all of the Ohio riders are hard to beat. I left Ohio still with the points lead so it ended up being a good overall weekend and I was happy. The next events I will be attending will be Lima, the Black Cat Gold Grand Nationals, and Frederick. My team and I have decided to hold off on riding the basic class until after nationals because we felt that it was best for me to wait because of my current points in pro sport division. Until then I hope everyone has a great summer and good luck to all of the racers. |
